Equestrian traditions and wide, open, still preserved
spaces ...
In Hungary, horses are a tradition and we invite you to discover the great plain of Hungary, called Puszta, during our riding holiday where fast riding, comfort, relaxation and local gastronomy are part of the program.
The departure base is a beautiful, traditonal farmsted of four ancient farmhouses, restored and decorated in a traditonal, rural style, but with all the modern comfort.
From here, we ride out every day to discover the wild steppe, natural reserves, swamps and shadowy forests.
Depending on the itinerary and the season, we might see herds of water buffalos and ancient sheep breeds, called sheep of Valachy, with their long spiral horns, come accross game or gather fruits from the trees along our way (cherries, apples, peaches, plums...).
During the whole stay we will have the opportunity to try local dishes, delicious and authentic Hungarian meals, made of locally produced ingredients, either directly on the farm or produced by the neighbouring farmers.

ITINERARY
Ride in the southern Puszta of Hungary which lies between the Danube and the Tisza rivers, on sandy soils, with forests, steppe, lakes, meadows, swamps and big open spaces for some fast gallops...
Day 1 - Sunday: Budapest - Farm
You will be met at Budapest Ferihegy Airport terminal 1 at 03:15 pm and terminal 2 at 04:00 pm for transfer by car to Ruzsa. This one and a half to two hour trip will take you through the Hungarian Southern Great Plain. Near the end of your journey you leave tarmac roads and continue on sandy tracks to the secluded farmstead. There you will meet your host and guide for the week. He will introduce you to your guestroom, the farm with its ancient breeds of animals and the horses. In the evening, have a typical Hungarian meal accompanied by the local wine. Night in guest rooms on the farm.
Day 2 - Monday
A Hungarian farmers’ breakfast is a great way to start the day followed by an introductory ride to get acquainted with your horse.
This first ride will give you an opportunity to experience the openness of the country; the seemingly never-ending sandy tracks, meadows and marsh lands. Enjoy lunch on the garden terrace. Have a rest at the pool side and meet for tea or coffee and be ready for a late afternoon ride through lovely forests of pine, acacia and poplar trees of the surrounding neighborhood.
For dinner you will have the chance to try seasonal, homemade, traditional dishes. Night in guest rooms on the farm.
Day 3 - Tuesday
After breakfast, set off on a ride which will take you past fruit plantations, small farmsteads with crops of the local speciality, Hungarian red pepper or paprika, so hot it takes your breath away! Return to the farm for lunch, or you may stop for lunch by the side of a lake, where a local fisherman will prepare a traditional Hungarian soup for you called “Halaszle”. During this afternoon's ride, you may be lucky enough to spot the Hungarian Longhorn Cattle.
In the evening, try 'Bogracs' Goulash a Hungarian dish cooked over open fire. Night in guest rooms on the farm.
.
Day 4 - Wednesday
After breakfast, set off on a day ride through the Puszta. On the other side of a paved road you will find shady forests rich in wildlife. After a long canter along preserved areas, you find a local tavern for your lunch break. After relaxing, perhaps have some flat out gallop on the rolling plains this afternoon.
This evening surprises you with a traditional Hungarian feast “Mulatság” accompanied by some live zither music. After supper you will have the chance to learn to dance the Hungarian 'csárdás'... Night in guest rooms on the farm.
Day 5- Thursday
This morning you might have a later brunch, followed by the chance to book a massage to ease your tired riding with a relaxing back or full body massage. For those who would like a massage, this treat will be offered for an extra fee by a trained massage therapist. There is also a possibility to purchase gifts like home made farmerś products, handicrafts and traditional clothes at the farm.
After a light lunch prepared at the farm, you will hack towards the old bunker which was used during the Revolution in 1956. This ride provides a good flattened out gallop across the open plains and some shady forest tracks to cool down.
Later you may explore the Puszta in a typical Hungarian horse drawn cart which will drop you off at the thermal spa of Mórahalom. The spa welcomes you in winter with 16 and in summer with 21 different pools. Apart from medical water with high mineral content, there are saunas, steam baths, adventure pools and a 15000m2 green park.
Dinner at a Hungarian restaurant where you can sample an array of splendid local dishes and night in the guest rooms of the farm.
Day 6 - Friday
After an early breakfast, set off on a long ride through the forest to the legendary “Rózsa Sándor Tree” which was used by bandits in the 19th Century to hide themselves from the authorities. Ride to a small farm museum where you will find farm tools and utensils of the past.
This ride will take you across open plains where there horses can show what they are made of.
Experience a typical lunch with lard bread, sweet paprika and seasonable vegetables. Later, continue your ride past a tobacco plantation and through forests of oak.
Visitthe farm's wine cellar in the evening for a romantic candle light dinner and try the region's wines and some palinka which will likely be served with the home speciality 'meat in the bucket' with home made pickles. Night in the guest rooms of the farm.
Day 7 - Saturday: Budapest
After breakfast, transfer back to Budapest where we drop you off either at the airport
or in the town centre (23 euros additional cost per person) if you continue your stay in Hungary.
