MEXICO : THE HACIENDAS RIDE IN CHARROS LAND...

Allying both rides and cattle work this trail in the state of Jalisco will allows you to discover an authentic Mexico, off the beatten track.

You will follow Pancho Villa's tracks, hero of the revolution and ride side by side with charros, this outstanding riders, vituosos of the lasso who knows how to keep alive the equestrian traditions of their ancestors.

You will be accommodated in luxurous traditional Haciendas from the 17th and 18th century.

The trail will lead you through Los Altos (Jalisco), a region of highlands right in the heart of Mexico and its typical villages and old colonial towns. We suggest a shorter and more adaptated program in Mexico for non riders.

ITINERARY


Day 1 - Arrival in Mexico - Hacienda San Cirilo
Meeting at Leon airport at the arrival of our flight. Transfer from the airport to Hacienda San Cirilo where we will meet our guide, the horses and the other riders. During the afternoon short ride of 2 hours to get use the horse if it's possible regards to your arrival. In the evening, special welcome dinner and night at the hacienda.

Day 2 - Hacienda San Cirilo and the work of Charros
Today, you will discover mexican style breakfast with tortillas or quesadillas. After this copious breakfast, we saddle our horses with Mexican saddles of which you will appreciate very quickly the comfort. We will ride along the lagos river, passing alfalfa and oats fields, we will pass by Hacienda Sanfandila we will see this hacienda by the road, if its possible we can stop and visit it, we will  canter in a very nice trail, with trees in the sides, marking the way, we will continue towards hacienda santa cruz! This hacienda is just about in the skirts of the mountains, San Cirilo its an equestrian ranch, so we will be able to Jorge and Lena how they do the naturalhorseman ship and if you want to help them in their daily work with the horses. Lunch in hacienda San Cirilo. In the evening, short ride before dinner. Overnight at the Hacienda

Day 3 - Hacienda San Cirilo - Hacienda Sepulveda
After breakfast we get back into the saddle. Our ride of the morning leads us up to the nearby ranch, El Reboso where the owner, Mr. De Alba, will make us discover his horse tack museum and give us a tequila. Return to Hacienda El ahito for a barbecue of grilled beef. In the afternoon, small ride of two hours before joining by car (20 minutes of route) the Hacienda Sepulveda. We shall settle down in this very beautiful hacienda for the rest of our stay. After a margarita, we shall visit the Hacienda. Traditional and delicious dinner in the Hacienda. Overnight. (5 hours on ride)

Day 4 - Alcazar Canyon
A special breakfast will be served in the restaurant. In the mornig, ride to pass big rock formation. The ride will offer us a noce view of the local landscape. Lunch in Hacienda San Cayetano a building full of charm. Here, the owners bring up impressive fighting bulls since three generations, and horses are particularly well educated for the manipulation of "toros". Then in the afternoon we will return to the hacienda through plantations of agave, a plant which enters the manufacturing of Mezcal, a local alcohol. At the beginning of the evening, we leave the hacienda to do the tour of the colonial town of Lagos de Moreno with its beautiful plazas and historical buildings... But before it, we have free time to have a rest at the hacienda: enjoy the swimming pool, spa, jacuzzi... Dinner and overnight in the hacienda. (5 to 6 hours ride)

Day 5 - La Labor's Hacienda
After breakfast, wesaddle our horses and go for a ride towards Hacienda of La Labor. Jesus Vega, the owner of the ranch will offer us a special lunch afterwhat we will visit the hacienda, his saddle collection and enjoy the unique way of mecixan roping with Jesus Chargas. In the afternoon we will go for a ride with Mr Vega on the land of the hacienda before heading back to Hacienda Sepulveda crossing Lagos river. Free time in the hacienda before dinner. Dinner and night at the Hacienda. (4h30 hours on ride)

Day 6 - On the "Real Camino" by horse
After breakfast we will saddle up our horses and leave for Hacienda of San Rafael. The first part of this ride leads us up to the Hacienda San Fandila, an huge property where we shall have a small break. This particularly well restored hacienda, has beautiful gardens where we can walk before following our day. We use the "Real Camino", a royal road used for the transport of the silver cargoes from Zacatecas to Mexico City. We arrive at the hacienda San Rafael for the lunch. In the afternoon, we ride on the lands of the hacienda before returning to our hacienda. Dinner and overnight (5 to 6 hours on ride).

Day 7 - Eugenio Macias' Ranch
Breakfast of specialities: Chilaquiles! Today, we go to discover Eugenio Macias's ranch. To join it, we pass by a ranch which possesses a cowshed with more than 300 cows. At our arrival to the ranch, we are welcomed by the owner. Eugenio is very famous in the area as landowner but also as trainer by using only soft methods of training with its horses. It is amazing to be with him and to be able to make of the sorting of cattle on horseback... For the lunch, Eugenio will have planned a barbecue with tequila or beer. In the afternoon, we return to the hacienda and we enjoy the sunset on the landscapes surroundings. Diner and overnight at the hacienda (5 to 6 hours on ride).

Day 8 - Hacienda and surroundings
After the breakfast, we get into the saddle in the direction of the Ranch El Monte which extends over more than 300 hectares. We discover landscapes close to the African savanne, with fields of corn and a forest of tree mezquite. We continue then our road to arrive in a traditional ranch where we have a lunch. We meet the owner, Mr Rafael, a pleasant and polite man who will speak to us about the history of its ranch. After our return at Serrano's hacienda, we end this magnificent day on a relaxing evening, in the sound of the Mexican music, taking advantage of the swimming pool, the spa of the hotel.... Besides, possibility of tonic or relaxing massages in the spa. Dinner and overnight at the hacienda (5 to 6 hours on ride).

Day 9 - Serrano's Hacienda - Mexico
Breakfast at the hacienda. Transfer to the airport according to your departure time.

Important: the itinerary could be changed by our guide according to climate, availabilities in haciendas... Our guide will be all his possible to respect this itinerary.

Horses
The horses are quater horses, arabians, pure blod and mexican criollos.

Tack
The tack is Western or Mexican Charro saddle very comfortable.

Recommended riding level

We ride from 2 to 6 hours each day, often on hilly ground or at a sustained pace, with numerous gallops. So it is necessary to have a certain endurance on horseback and to be able to manage his horse at all paces.


Useful inforamtion
Accompagned children are allowed if minimum 12 years old and qualified for the ride.
Maximum weight for riders : 125 kg

Non riders are welcomed and they can enjoy the hotel facilities when you're riding.

The rides are supervised by Jorge Serrano a local experienced guide, who perfectly know the ground and the horses. Ostlers will take care of the horses but if you wish to saddle and unsaddle your own horse you will be welcome to do so.

Accommodation
Accommodations for The Haciendas Ride are in two different haciendas from the 17th and 18th century, there are colonial houses built around a patio. They reflects the Mexican architecture with individual rooms and private bathrooms all decorated with Mexican taste.
When you have free times at Hacienda Sepulveda, at the end of the afternnon (betwen 5 pm and 8 pm), you can enjoy all services and actiivties of the Hacienda as swimming pool, spa with a massage, bikes.... and two free acces at the jacuzzi.

Food
In the Haciendas, you will eat typical Mexican and gourmet cuisine recepies from the grandmother. All the haciendas offer a specail dish, with the specail homemade flavour...

Meals feature original Mexico recipes passed down through generations. Very affordable for foreigners. Enjoy a breakfast in the garden or a candlelight dinner with private serenade... Delicious hot meals will be served everyday for lunch.

CLIMATE
Mexico has a semi arid climate which is tempered by altitude in the region where the trail ride takes place (nights are cold from november to March, with average 3°C (never below 0°C)), but days are perfect for horse riding. Rooms are made in order riders feel very well.

From June to August, it's the rainy season, but as we are riding in a semi arid area, there isn't to much rain. Usually it rains at night or around 6pm, so horse riding is perfectly possible.
