Horses and traditional tacks

They are horses we rided during this trail : cruzados like Hispano-Arab and Lusitanian horses. This horses are very used even for labour with cattle or corridas in Portugal and Spain. We use Spanish or Portuguese saddles. And the traditional working saddle is very comfortable.

Breeding lands

We cross the border between Spain and Portugal to go through fields in rural areas. On the road, oak trees and olive trees give us a Mediterranean landscape. Temperatures can go up very quickly and crossing rivers are really pleasant.

Then we reach an area of eucalyptus. Fiels are bordered by stony walls, reminding us Ireland but under the sun and with olive trees !

Going closer to the Ocean, vegetation is more important and we ride through Mediterranean forests. Finally, green vineyards and pine trees draw us a new landscape. Sandy paths are pefect for canters.

At the end... the beach !

After rows of dunes, we arrive at the "purpose" of this ride : the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean... Let's canter !!

Golega, capitale of Lusitanian horses

During one full after-noon, we visit Golega " capitale of lusitanian horses" where each year there is in November a great fair horses. At the end of the day, we visit a saddlery, the opportuny to buy some goods.

Accomodations

We sleep in small rural hotels, often situated in very beautiful villages which the visit is an additional charm. the little willage of "Torres Novas", in particular, plunges us into the most traditional Portugal!
