Our horseback adventure in Patagonia will make you discover a very new environment, wild and isolated, with a sometime hard climate.

You have to carefully prepare your equipment view to these information, above all if you are looking for our "intensive" ride with bivouac accommodation. Crossing this large and wild countryside require a good equipment and a minimum training.

This page was built to help you to prepare your trip in this far away country in the best conditions.

 

 

Necessary equipment

 

The Patagonian climate is completly unpredictable... Temperatures are usually from 10 to 20 °C during the day, but can reach 0°C during the night. The wind can be violent, so to have a good windcheater is particularly important.

We recommand you to pack the follwing equipment (in a big suple travel bag, big waterproof bags will be provided by our organization to protect your luggage during the trip when the logistic is a pack horse) :

- Sleeping bag (4 seasons, nights should be very fresh), small pillow even if you choice the estancia ride (in refuges, pillows are not provided)
Possibility to rent sleeping bags, in that case, we recommand you to take aliner for hygienic reasons.
- Groundsheet (an inflatable one could be nice for more comfort and isolation)
- 2 riding trousers or jeans
- Long sleeves shirts or T-shirts
- Underwears
- Hot riding gloves

- Riding hat (If you choice not to wear it, it's by your own responsability)
- 1 wollen hat or hot hat
- 5 pairs of socks including long and hot socks to ride

- 2 headscarfs
- 1 comfortable trouser
- Walking shoes

- Light and comfortable shoes

- Riding boots + half chaps (comfortable to ride and to walk)
- Good waterproof windcheater rain coat (no plastic poncho)
- Long underwears for cold nights
- Wollen suit
- confortableand hot jacket
- sun hat

- Gourd (1l) or 2 half litre bottles
- Camera with memory card and battery
- Pocket torch with battery
- Sun glasses

- 1 additional pair of glasses for those who wear its.
- Solar cream and protector lipstick
- Biodegradable washing product
- Toilet paper

- Waterproof platic bags to protect your camera from water and dust when you're on horseback
- Insect repellent
- Small towel

- Body wipe

- Alarm
- Notebook and pen
- Pocket knife

- High calorie food (to keep with you during the ride), tea
- Handkerchiefs

- Small spanish dictionnary


Health

 

The team who will guide you during this adventure is componed by local guides and specialists of trail who perfectly know the area as they are leaving their from more than 10 years.

Everything will be made to minimize risks, but it'ss important for you to be in good health, conscious of the risks representeed by a horse riding trail in a wild area, in altitude, with several days far away from the first road, and from the hospital. The horse's behaviour is unpredictable and accident are still possible.

Prepare a good first aid kit with your doctor. You must be conscious that you'll be in a very isolated place.

Prepare your stamina a few weeks before departure.

A repatriation insurance is compulsory to join our rides. If you're leaving inside the European community, we suggest you to subscribe our multirisk insurance (repatriation, cancellation, lugagges). More information.
