This trail ride is a trip for the nature
lovers through the woody foothills of the Altaï Mounts. We will ride through the Altaï National Park, and pass rivers, valleys and forests where a varied fauna develops: deers, bears, mooses, wolves, birds of prey… Among the strong moments of our trip: The Khagiin Khar Nuur Lake, in the heart of the mountains, surrounded with deep forests, the Przewalski horses sanctuary, the days spent with nomadic families in the Terelj… We are far from trying to beat the endurance and distance record, we, above all, aim at enjoying the exceptional natural sites we cross, and taking our time to meet the nomadic populations. However this trail ride requires a certain physical implication, seeing that the isolation of hose regions calls for using packsaddle horses and prevents the logistic vehicles from meeting us during several days. |

ITINERARY
Day 1 : Ulaanbaatar
Arrival at Oulaanbaatar early in the morning. Greeting with our team at
the airport and transfer to your Yurte hotel. In the afternoon, In the
afternoon visit of the Capital and notably Gandan Monastery,temple complex
where thousand of pelegrins come to pray. The visit of this temple is
ended by a service. Then, we will carry on visiting the art and craft
market among the local people. Traditional diner under a Yurte-restaurant
and night in a Yurt camp.
Day 2 : First contact with the Khenthii Nomadic
After breakfast, going to the National Park of Khentii (around 3
hours), famous for its landscapes and rocks formations. De nombreux
nomades vivent encore ici. Les chevaux, les yacks, les moutons et
les chèvres paissent tranquillement autour des yourtes dans
cette vallée immense.
Après un bon déjeuner dans un camp de yourtes, nous
roulons pendant quelques heures pour rejoindre nos chevaux. Campement
sur les berges de la rivière Tuul, à l'entrée
de la vallée.
Day 3 : Leaving the civilazation...
Après un solide petit déjeuner, nous chevauchons dans
la vallée de la Tuul à la base des chaînes montagneuses.
Nous quittons progressivement toute civilisation pour nous enfoncer
dans ces espaces sauvages... De nombreux oiseaux, marmottes et autres
écureuils saluent notre passage.
Après 4h de chevauchée, nous atteignons le magnifique
site où nous camperons pour la nuit.
Day 4 : Tuul Valley
Aujourd'hui, en suivant la rivière Tuul, nous verrons le paysage
changer à mesure que nous progressons vers le nord. Nous évoluons
bientôt dans le silence impressionnant des forêts de pins
qui abritent des aigles, des piverts et de nombreux autres oiseaux.
Après 3h30 à cheval, nous arrivons à la confluence
des rivières Tuul et Hagiin.
Nous continuons le long de la Tuul à travers de vastes vallées
surplombées par des montagnes boisées.
Nous passons la nuit à la jonction de deux vallées au
bord de la Tuul.
Day 5 : Siberian Taïga and dense forest
Nous quittons la vallée de la Tuul pour entrer dans une zone
de toundra, l'habitat traditionnel de l'original. A la fin de la journée,
vous saurez reconnaître ses traces sans problème ! Après
1h de chevauchée dans ce paysage sibérien, nous montons
le long des pentes à travers une forêt profonde réputée
pour sa richesse en loups, ours, cerfs et orignaux. Nous passons le
col et redescendons vers le spectaculaire Lac Noir (Khagiin Khar Nuur).
Nous installons nos tentes sur le sable doré des berges du
lac.
Day 6 and 7 : Khagiin Khar Nuur Lake (Black lake)
Journées de détente au lac, dans un site spectaculaire
à la nature préservée, idéal pour observer
la vie sauvage. Vous pouvez nager dans les eaux pures du lac, pêcher
ou marcher dans les forêts particulièrement denses et
à la faune abondante qui entourent le lac.
Day 8 : Montain's lake
Nous rendons visite aujourd'hui à 3 petits lacs situés dans
des sites magnifiques. Les plus aventureux d'entre nous pourront escalader
les montagnes alentours pour découvrir de superbes panoramas. Nous
passons la nuit dans ces lieux particulièrement isolés et
sauvages.
Day 9 : Khongoryn Valley
Après le petit déjeuner, nous nous engageons dans la profonde
vallée de Khongoryn Gol, entourée d'un impressionnant ensemble
montagneux. Nous suivons la rivière pendant 4h jusqu'à un
confluent. Nous évoluons dans de vastes vallées aux faux
airs de Far West. Encore 1h30 de chevauchée, et nous découvrons
une grande forêt d'immenses cèdres, de pins et de bouleaux.
Nous passons la nuit dans la forêt près d'une belle rivière.
Day 10 : Le "Berceau doré" Monts
Khentii
Nous chevauchons le long d'un sentier particulièrement raide
pendant 2h, jusqu'à un col proche du Pic Altan Ogii (2646m),
le "Berceau Doré", l'un des plus hauts sommets des
Khentii.
Sur l'autre versant, nous déjeunons au bord d'une rivière.
Nous continuons à chevaucher à travers le Terelj, dans
la vallée de Dund Bayan Gol. A la fin de cette journée,
nous retrouvons le véhicule de logistique, qui nous conduira
à un camp de yourtes où nous pourrons approfondir notre
connaissance du mode de vie des nomades.
Day 11 and 12 : With the nomadic people
rès un repos bien mérité, nous profitons
de ces deux jours dans le Terelj pour rencontrer les nomades, visiter
les familles et marcher dans les vallées. Vous serez invités
par les cavaliers à une chevauchée dans le Parc National
de Terelj.
Day 13 : Terelj - Ulaanbaatar
Nous quittons Terelj pour retourner vers Oulan Bator. A notre arrivée,
installation à l'hôtel.
Day 14 : Ulaanbaatar
Journée complète de visite de la capitale : vous visiterez
un monastère en matinée, puis le fameux Musée d'Histoire
National, avec du temps libre pour le shopping. Dîner dans l'un
des meilleurs restaurants locaux. Night in Hotel.
Day 15 : Ulaanbaatar
Transfert back to the airport in the morning.
Please note that this horse trekking in Mongolia is a real adventure in
some region which are just opening up to tourism. MOreover, for the mongols
the track of time and space is very different than us. For this reason,
we can be sure of the definite program and schedule , our guide will be
flexible according to the circumstances. All of that is a part of an expectional
trip and give it a certain charm!

HORSES AND REQUIRED RIDING LEVEL
Horses
The Mongolian horses are small, sturdy; they are working horses suited
to all the sort of grounds.
Tack
The tack is traditional, or stems from the saddles of the Russian cavalry.
Required riding level
A great experience of riding is not necessary, it is much more important
to be used to living outside, not being afraid of a lack of comfort, and
being fit to explore those very remote regions and being able to stay
between 4 and 6h in the saddle, for 6 days running.
This ride in the Khentiiï Mountains is intended to experienced riders,
as the support vehicule is a packhorse and environnement is quiet hard
and wild.
YOUR GUIDES
The team that supervises these trail rides is composed of local specialists.
Everything is done to reduce the risks, but it is important to be fit
and conscious of the risks linked to a trail ride in a wild environment,
seeing that certain stages taking us several days on horseback away from
the closest road and so from the hospital.
However, our personal safety is assured by the traditional hospitality
in Mongolia. An attack or a theft is much more possible in your native
town than in those welcoming regions!
