In the heart of Indian Ocean, Madagascar means high baobabs in ventrus trunks on the background of blue sky, green ricefields of tops-trays crossed by path of this blood red earth which gave this nickname, deep forests populated with surprising lemurs, beaches with crystalline waters and white sand...

To investigate this variety we propose a tour in west area and its high platins on horseback. So join us to discover one of the biggest island of the world and fill up feelings..

ITINERARY


Day 1

We will be met at the airport and transported to your guest house for the night. Dinner at leisure.


Day 2

After breakfast we go to the ranch where horses are waiting for us. On the way, we visit the Lemurs' Farm. It's the only reserve of the island where you can see 9 species of lemurs in freedom. Lunch at the ranch. Then we enjoy our first ride along a river. Dinner at the ranch. Overnight in cottage or camp with tents.

Day 3

Our ride today brings us through Sakay plain. We reach Sakay river for the lunch. On afternoon we go by red ground path between green ricefields and villages. Dinner and camp for the night near the river.

 

Day 4

This morning we get into saddle to reach the volcanic area by a back stone road following the meanders of Lily river. This road leads us to Lily falls which are 23m height. The day ends at Amparaky geysers: an outdoor span to have a reste after this long day on horseback. Bivouac


Day 5

After breakfast, we leave the camp and go back to Itasy lake, a crater subject og histories and legends. During the ride, we pass many villages located aournd the lake. After the lunch we galop on the bank of the lake to join the village of Manazary. For this night the camp is settled at Ierena falls or close to the lake.


Day 6

From today, we discover new landscapes since to go towards Ankaratra mountains. After red ground and ricefields, the high plains of island with summits and crests of the mountain offer us a new view. Now we ride on narrow paths, through mounts and valleys. Dinner and overnight at camp.

Day 7

After breakfast , the ride towards the mountain on narrow paths follows. So we begin to go up Ankaratra mountain on horseback. Dinner and overnight at camp.

Day 8
It's time to go back to the capitale so we go down the mountain by the other side with our horses after a last incredible view on this mountain. If we can cause of weather, we could reach Tsiafajavona peak where the mist is persistent. During the way back we have a stop a trout fish farm. A little reste welcomed after this ride into mountains. Dinner and overnight at camp.

Day 9
Today again, for our last ride, it's a long trail for us to reach Antananarivo which we can see far way. Along the way we cross villages and find landscapes made by ricefields as well as the civilization. Bivouac or overnight in a hotel.

Day 10 - Departure from Mauritius
The plans for our last day are : the visit of Antananarivo and its handcaft market. Lunch at the crocodile farm. The visit of the city ends during the afternoon. We enjoy all toghether a farwell dinner with danses and music before the transfer to the airport for the return flights.

They come from local breeding.

Tack
English saddles with saddle bags.

Recommended riding level
To join, this ride, you have to be comfortable at walk, trot and canter even if the main gait is the pace. Some stages are more speed according to the ground. 5 to 6 hours on horseback poer day so you need a good stamina.

 

Useful information

Maximum weight : 90 kg
Children over 15 years old are welcomed on our rides if accompagnied with a responsible adult.

You have to wear an helmet for this ride

You spend nights in guest house (similar of 2 star hotel with private bathroom) or overnight in camp with tents.

Food
You take your picnic lunch with you on horseback or the logistic car could bring the lunch at meeting point. Dinners at camps are simple but made with local products.
