A tour to Landmannalaugar, one of the natural highlights of Southern Iceland. Colourful rhyolite mountains form this unique area and surround black lava fields where hot water streams are just the right temperature for a refreshing bath.
Ride into the mountains and through the lava field of Skaftáreldar, the result of the devastating eruption of 1783.
This tour introduces you to the amazing power of fire and ice, which has influenced life in Iceland ever sincce the days of the first settlers. Also included in this tour is a visit to beautiful Skógarfoss, Gullfoss, Waterfalls and the world famous Geysir. |

ITINERARY
Day 1 : Monday
Transfer from Keflavík Airport to a guesthouse in Reykjavík. At 17:30 we invite you to a Welcome Meeting including traditional Icelandic soup. Receive details of the following tour and meet your fellow riders.
Day 2 : Tuesday
We drive to Myrkholt Farm, visiting the well-known Geysir hot spring area on our way. After an introduction to the icelandic horse and its paits we start our ride along pleasant tracks through fertile farmland. View majestic canyon Bruarhlöd where milky glacier fed water passes through bizarre rock formations. Now we head towards the interior and follow beautiful Tungufellsadalur Valley onto Hrunahaidi heath.here we get a great view over to magestic glacier Langjökull and Gullfoss waterfall. The night is spent in Helgaskali Montain cabin situated on the banks of Stoa-Laxa River.

Day 3 : Wednesday
We ride past Mt; Helgafell towards the interior. Today we visit the 2nd
highest waterfall in Iceland, Haifoss. See the water tumble down for 122m.
Our accommodation for tonight is located close to Iceland longest river,
Thjorsa. This river is the source for several hydropower plants which
provide Iceland with clean electricity. Holaskogur is spacious mountain
cabin and offers hot showers.
(5 - 6 hours)
Day 4 : Thursday
On a bridge we cross mighty River Thjorsa and ride north of Mt. Hekla
volcano, following good riding tracks through feilds of ashes and lava
from numerous eruptions. Our ride ends in the Thoristungur area. Here
we keep the horses, but continue ourselves to Hrauneyjar. Highland centre,
where we spend the night in double rooms. Then a bus will dirve us to
Landmannalaugar area with its natural hot pool, surrounded by colorful
moutains and black lava fields. We have time to relax in the natural hot
pool, hike through black lava fields or climb a mountainin this wonderfull
area. This day will be without doubt one of the highlights of the tour.
Return to Hrauneyjar for dinner and an overnight stay.
(3 - 4 hours)
Day 5 : Friday
We have a olong riding day ahead of us and continue on good riding trcks down from the moutains to Holaskogur, where we change horses and rest for a while. Now we follow the ancient route of Sprengisandur to Stöng, an acien Saga farm from the 12th century and explore the many sights of the area, such as the beautiful Gjain Valley. Overnight stay at the Fossnes Fram , situated in the beautifull surroundings. After e nice dip in the outdoor tu we are ready for a hearty dinner at the farm. (7 - 8 hours)
Day 6 : Saturday
From Fossnes Farm we head off through fertile and across the salmon river Stora-Laxa. We reste at the round-pen Hrunarettir, where each autumn sheep are sorted after having spend the summer in the mountains. Return to Myrkholt Farm and after having enjoyed refreshments it is time to say goodbye to staff and horses. A bus will take us back to Reykjavik for our last night in Iceland. (5 - 6 hours)
Day 7 : Sunday
Transfer by bus to Keflavík Airport in time for the flight back
home.

and unlimited mileage included).

HORSES AND REQUIRED RIDING LEVEL
The Icelandic horse is world-famous for his gait, the tölt, fast
and comfortable, that allows covering long distances without tiredness.
Moreover, during our rides, each rider has several horses that he rides
in turn, the others following the ride in freedom. Limited tiredness for
each horse, and pleasure to ride among a heard of fifty horses or so in
freedom for the riders.
From 5 to 7h on horseback a day (30-40 km), without great technical difficulties,
but requiring an experience of long rides.
The guide is responsible for your safety, therefore he can ask you not to
ride if your riding level is not sufficient for this ride.
For your safety, we recommend always to wear a riding helmet while on horseback.

YOUR GUIDES
The ride is supervised by a team of professionals of the trail ride in
Iceland that perfectly knows the Icelandic horses and the specificity
of the ground.

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation in guesthouses, mountains cabins and gîtes. Rustic confort, sometimes, there is only one shower for the all group.
You'll sleep in made up beds.

From 10 to 20 riders. Given the fact that we always move with a substantial
herd of horses in freedom (on average 50 to 60 horses) in immense areas,
a more substantial group than in our other destinations is not a handicap
at all.

CLIMATE
The rigour of the Icelandic
climate, which has formed the immense spaces that you cover, only allows
the trail rides from June to September.
However this period is really ideal seeing that the sun shines during
the best part of the day.
