Day 1 : Tozeur

Welcome to Tozeur airport by our guide and transfer by minibus to Tozue city centre. Set up to Ras El Ain 4* hotel (or similar). Welcome cocktail depending arrivals. Dinner and night at the hotel.

Day 2 : Chebika - Tamerza
Breakfast. We next leave by road (1h drive) to the first mountain oasis, Chibika where we meet the horses before to start the trail. We start with a short training along the est part of the Atlas mountains where we discover the very good apitude and the safe foot of our horses. After some canters in the barren area, we go on the mountain along the oued, to the end of the beautiful canyon until Tamerza waterfall.

Then in the bend of a curve, we discover a magnificent hotel to side of mountain, Tamerza Palace 5*. It is there that we shall spend the night. Dinner and at night in the hotel.

Day 3 : Djebel Redaieff
After breakfast we start our day in direction to the gorges of Felja which cross Djebel Redaieff. Today is a real adventurous day as we ride up to 950m altitude across the Atlas with colourful landscapes until a big 180° viewpoint on the Sahara desert and his salt lakes !

Dinner and night in berber luxury camp at the entrance of Djebel.

Day 4 : Chekmou - Neflayett oasis

Breakfast at the camp. Today, we ride in south direction to reach the Sahara. We across Erg and Djebel to Chekmou palm grove where we have stop for lunch.

A lot of canters today and after lunch, we ride to Neflayett oasis where we spend the night as the day before in a berber luxury camp.

Day 5 : Neflayett - Ibn Chabat oasis

After breakfast we leave to the est direction with beautiful canters on the sand until Ibn Chabat, true desert oasis. On the road we meet numerous herds of wild dromedaries. We leave the horse and drive back with the minibus to Tozeur where we spend the night to the ras El Ain 4* hotel (or similar). Dinner and night.

Day 6 : Ibn Chabat oasis - Dune of Aariguet

Breakfast at the hotel and 20 min road transfer to Ibn Chabat oasis where we find our horses.

This morning we cross Chott El Garsa salt lake, well known for his mirages, then we find the sandy dunes of the desert to arrive in Aariguet. The scenary here became famous thanks to the movy Star Wars. Lunch to Aariguet. Next, we leave to Nefta, an hidden oasis in the heart of the desert. We cross the city on horseback before to leave the horses. Transfer back to Tozeur by minibus (30 min). Diner and night in the hotel.

32 km on horseback.

Day 7 : Nefta - Chott El Jerid - Tozeur
Breakfast and transfer to Nefta where we meet our horses. Today we ride to Chott El Jerid, the second biggest salt lake of the world (after Salt Lake City in USA). We cross palm groves until their end.

We continue our route to a bedouin camp where we have the last lunch of the trail with a bedouin family. We end last day with a long canter to Tozeur plam grove where we say good bye to the horse.

As it's the last evening, we will join the palm grove by barouche to have a special dinner and traditionnal show. Night at the hotel.

Day 8 : Tozeur
After breakfast, transfer to Tozeur airport.

Horses

The horses are predominantly arab, barb arab and barb mares. All are schooled for trail riding. They are very well adapted to mountain conditions.

 

Tack

Trail saddles from France made to stay long hours in the saddle. Saddlebags and folsters are provided.

 

Required riding level

To join this ride, you need to have a good experience of horse riding. We ask you to be comfortable at all paces in open spaces. Everyday, we ride 2 to 3 hours in the morning and 2 to 3 hours in the afternoon.

Durant hard ascents, we will ask all riders to walk nearby their horse.

Teenagers accompagnied with parents are welcome from 16 years old. Otherwise, the minimum age is 18 years old.

Maximum weight : 100 kg

Our guide is french but speaks english. He's in love with this part of Tunisia where he lives from several years. He perfectly know flora and botany.

An excellent cooker will provide you tasty and abundant tunisian food for lunch.

Logistic
Our support vehicle is never far away, it joins us at lunch time and can be present in case of emergency. The team is esquiped with cellular phone and long distance talkie Walkie.

The minibus will pick you up every evening at the horse field to drive you to the hotel. The same route is made in the morning to find again our horses. Our luggages will transportated every day from accommodation to accommodation.

We will ask you to put in the saddlebags your equipment for the day (rain coat, water, camera...)

Our team will take care the horse during lunch time and in the evening.

Accommodation

5 nights in comfortable hotels :

- Ras El Ain 4* in Tozeur (4 nights),
- Tamerza Palace 5* in Tamerza (1 night),
Stars are given as local classification. To compare with european classifactation, please take away half to one full star.

 

Berber luxury camp (2 nights)

We will do our best to keep those accommodations, but if required its could be replaced by equivalent accommodations.

 

Food

Breakfast and dinners are spent to the hotel.

The included drinks are half a bottle of mineral water and one soft drink per person per meal. Alcoholic drinks are not included.

Lunches are made in open nature. Each day, our support vehicule will be waiting for us with already put up table with hot meal (barbecue, start and dessert).

We guarantee the departure with a minimum of 2 riders.

Small group supplement (if less than 5 riders) : 200 € / pers.

 

If you're travelling alone a single supplement applies :

Single room supplement : 125 € to be paid directly (this supplement will not apply if you agree to share your room and if we find you another rider to share with).

- the trail ride as describe on full board basis,
- half bottle of minerl water + soft dring per meal
- the financial guarantee of the fund deposited at Randocheval

Tozeur area is the hotter and dryer region of Tunisia. Temperatures are caracterized by a big meteo range between night and day but also between winter and summer. it's more than 30°C in summer whereas in winter (when departures are planned) temperatures are between 12 to 25°C during the day.
