ITINERARYDay 1
Welcome to Pula airport in the evening and transfer to our riding base (40 min drive). Arrive to Istria and settle into your accommodations in the village of Karnevali, 3km from medieval market town of Zminj. Dinner and introduction with your host. Day 2 After a traditional breakfast we go to the stables. Easy riding through open countryside, vineyards and olive groves to a small cave Festinsko Kraljevstvo, followed by a leisurely trek to the medieval town of Savicenta and its Grimani Castle. Return home along the forest trails. Day 3 Our journey takes us through the Draga (Shallow Valley) which divides Istria into two parts, and in Roman times was the border between two cantons. Halfway along the valley the ghost town of Dvigrad awaits us. Although surrounded by legend we know that the town was abandoned after the plague epidemic in the 16th C. The dominating twin fortresses will be our backdrop for a well-earned picknick. We continue through the valley to return to our farm in Karnevali in the afternoon. Day 4 Today our riders can choose if they wish to spend a day exploring on their own, or, weather permitting, we take a car and boat to the National Park of Brijuni Islands, rich in ancient archeological excavations as well as flora and fauna. Brijuni have been a favourite holiday destination for the affluent Romans in the old days, and more recently a favourite of the European and world aristocracy. We have a possibility of riding and biking through the woods and along the unspoilt coastline. After a picnic lunch there will be time for swimming and relaxation.
Day 5 Today we shall be riding through the heart of the Istrian peninsula, dotted with small villages and quaint Istrian field houses called Kazun. A landscape of natural beauty leads us to the middle-age trading centre town of Gracisce where we will have a typical Istrian lunch. The town offers stunning views of Mount, across the shire landscape that we will be riding through late afternoon, covered with little hills, mountain ravines and lonely churches proudly fighting the forces of time. Late in the day we will reach the agro-tourism site of Gologoricki Dol with a tempting offer of domestic cuisine and wine awaiting us. Overnight in Gologoricki Dol. Day 6 This morning we continue through the hillsides to a viewpoint at the village of Cerovlje. Scenery of the sprawling Istrian countryside is stunning., We shall enjoy riding along the flanks of Mount Ucka National park before we return to Dol. A special meal, traditionally prepared in a cermic pot called a cripnja, is on the menu for this evening. Overnight in Gologoricki Dol. Day 7 After breakfast at these unique accommodations we will trail the old country roads and farms to the medieval town of Lindar, where picnic lunch will await us. After lunch we continue through fields and small vineyards to the stables where we began, saying goodbye to our beautiful horses that carried us proudly during the last seven days. We spend the last night in Karnevali with a farewell dinner. Day 8 Breakfast and so long! Transfert back to Pula airport in the morning.
